About the Simons

  Results • Relationships • Relief

Eugene and Christopher Simon are Enrolled Agents (EA) located in Pukalani, Hawaii. The Simons work with you on a personal level to determine the best solutions for your unique needs, then leverage their seasoned expertise to achieve the best possible results.  Their locally-owned accounting firm is large enough to offer a full range of professional services at a fair price, but small enough to give you the individual attention that you deserve.  Rest assured that when a need arises, they are ready and capable to handle a range of tax preparation and bookkeeping services.

What is an Enrolled Agent?

An Enrolled Agent is a person licensed by the Department of the Treasury and authorized to represent and appear in place of the taxpayer in matters before the Internal Revenue Service. An Enrolled Agent is one of three federally authorized tax practitioners, the other two being Attorneys and Certified Public Accountants. Since the Enrolled Agent license is issued by the U. S. Government, Enrolled Agents may practice in any state.

Enrolled Agents specialize in matters of taxation. To become licensed, a person must pass a 16 hour test given on two consecutive days, covering all kinds of taxation, individual, corporation, partnerships, estates and trusts. The test is designed, administered, and scored by the Internal Revenue Service (which is probably why there are so few of us). After passing the test the applicant has to pass an extensive background check. To maintain the license the IRS requires 24 hours per year of continuing education. However, to maintain membership in our professional group, the National Association of Enrolled Agents, requires 30 hours per year, in seminars taught by certified instructors. That is what it takes to be a professional in the ever changing field of tax law.

Gene Headshot               Eugene F. Simon

Eugene F. Simon, Enrolled Agent, Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute, and President of Eugene F. Simon, Inc., did his very first tax return in 1979. In the beginning it was a lot simpler! All he needed was a pencil, a calculator and a copy machine. Now he needs both internal and outside IT providers to prepare tax returns. He is a member of the National and Hawaii Societies of Enrolled Agents and the National and Hawaii Societies of Public Accountants. His great success has been a thirty-three year marriage and four great children. For relaxation, he has coached and refereed local youth soccer teams on Maui.

Chris Headshot       Christopher K. Simon

Christopher K. Simon, Enrolled Agent, Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute, and internal IT person, did his first tax return a lot more recently. He is a member of the National and Hawaii Societies of Enrolled Agents and the Hawaii Society of Public Accountants. He cannot believe how complicated his father’s generation made everything. He enjoys kayak fishing Maui’s offshore channels.

Cari Headshot           Carinne Wongsam

Carinne Wongsam, office manager and bookkeeper, joined the practice in 2011 and is currently studying for her Enrolled Agent license. She provides the clients with bookkeeping services, payroll and excise tax services, and generally runs the office. If you really need something, call Cari. She is also a dog lover extraordinaire.
